Tata Motors Wins Orders for Over 5,000 Buses from State Transport Undertakings Across India

Tata Motors Ltd has secured cumulative orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from several State Transport Undertakings (STUs) across India, marking a major step in strengthening the country’s public transport infrastructure.

According to the company, the orders were awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the government procurement system. Deliveries of the buses will be carried out in phases based on the requirements of the respective state transport bodies.

The large order includes supplies for major transport organizations such as MSRTC (Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation), GSRTC (Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation), NWKRTC (North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation), TGSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation), BSRTC (Bihar State Road Transport Corporation), RSRTC (Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation), KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation), Haryana Roadways, and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU).

The buses ordered include a range of Tata Motors passenger mobility solutions such as Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus and Tata Starbus Prime, along with bus chassis models like Tata LP 1618, LP 1622 and LP 1822. These vehicles are designed for intercity, long-distance and intra-city public transport, focusing on passenger comfort, safety and fuel efficiency.

A senior company executive said the order reflects the continued trust of state transport agencies in Tata Motors’ mobility solutions and strengthens the company’s role in India’s evolving public transportation system.

The company also highlighted its strong service ecosystem, supported by over 4,500 sales and service touchpoints across India, which helps provide maintenance support, spare parts availability and fleet management services for transport operators.

Meanwhile, shares of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (NSE: TMPV) were trading at ₹309.35, down ₹15.20 (4.68%) in Friday’s session. The stock touched a day’s high of ₹324.15 and a low of ₹309.20, which is also close to its 52-week low level. The company’s 52-week high stands at ₹419.00.
